Composia 2.1

Composia is a comprehensive platform designed for creating musical compositions and practicing music theory concepts, with the ability to export works as MIDI or PDF files.

This project originated as a personal endeavor to deepen my understanding of music theory through practical application. It has necessitated the development of various components, including theoretical modules, a database system, sheet music generation and export functionalities, a menu interface, and a synthesizer engine.

Theoretical Modules: The software currently includes implementations for keys, solfège, scales, chords, phrases, figures, compositions, and part writing. Developing the part-writing algorithm posed significant challenges, particularly in balancing adherence to traditional rules with providing users some creative flexibility.

Database System: A custom database structure was created to store compositions while maintaining contextual information. This foundation aims to facilitate future integration of AI-based composition generation.

Sheet Music Generation: The most complex aspect has been real-time sheet music rendering and exporting, especially incorporating pinch-to-zoom functionality. Supporting four-voice arrangements with various note and rest configurations has proven to be intricate. Although work remains, the system now operates with improved stability.

Menu System: To manage testing different features efficiently, a "neuron" menu architecture was developed. While building this interface was challenging, its implementation has notably streamlined user interaction.

Synthesizer: The current synthesis module is rudimentary but functional, producing basic sounds for each note. Overtones are employed to enhance loudness perception: louder notes feature more overtone layers. Improvements are planned to expand sound quality and realism in future iterations.
